The Love for 3 Oranges
|
Mr. Lerner’s fourth collaboration with director Chas Rader-Shieber and scenic/costume designer Jacob A. Climer plunged him headfirst into the outrageous and surreal world of Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges. This riotous production defied expectations—shifting from vaudeville stages to circus rings, descending into hell, crossing through a Wild West desert complete with cowboys and pink buffalo, and finally arriving at a regal castle. Lerner’s choreography met the opera’s absurdity with fearless invention and vibrant physicality. As Meghan Klinkenborg of Schmopera wrote, “Isaac Martin Lerner’s choreography embraced the absurdity of each situation with gusto.”
