Mr. Lerner is an internationally sought-after teacher, known especially for his dynamic and accessible approach to contemporary floorwork. A natural pedagogue, he began his teaching journey with New York City public school students through Eliot Feld’s Ballet Tech, where he honed the skills to connect with movers of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. Since then, his teaching career has spanned a wide range of institutions and programs, including the Kizuna 2021 Workshop, Middlebury College, Urban Movement Arts (PA), Peridance Center, and the renowned HENNY JURRIËNS STUDIO in Amsterdam. He currently serves as a faculty member at Gibney Dance Center and as an adjunct professor at Adelphi University.
Lerner’s ongoing research as a performer and choreographer directly informs his touring workshop, Dots and Lines—an in-depth exploration of the body's relationship to the floor. Focused on spatial awareness, clarity of intention, and physical efficiency, Dots and Lines offers tools that benefit movers of all backgrounds, whether or not floorwork is central to their practice. His classes emphasize curiosity, adaptability, and body intelligence, creating a learning environment that is both rigorous and deeply supportive. Summer Teaching: |

Weekly Classes at Gibney Dance CenterIsaac returns to NYC on July 6!
Check the Gibney Class Schedule for sub info.
SUNDAYS | 12–2PM | Beginner LevelThis class breaks down the fundamentals of contemporary floorwork, offering dancers the tools they need to confidently navigate the floor. We begin with a group warm-up, then move through a progression of “floorwork multi-vitamins”—short technical exercises that build strength, coordination, and adaptability. These evolve into phrases that gradually scaffold into a longer, cohesive combination. The emphasis is on building a sustainable practice, expanding floorwork vocabulary, and embracing curiosity. No judgment, no pressure—we’re here to learn, try, fail, and grow together. See you in class!
MONDAYS | 12–2PM | Advanced/Open LevelIsaac Martin Lerner’s advanced floorwork class is a deep dive into movement efficiency, anatomical awareness, and dynamic transitions. Using breath as a driving force, dancers explore how to enter and exit the floor with clarity and power. After a breath-focused warm-up, we move across the floor with progressively challenging “multi-vitamins” that lead into a long, flowing phrase. The final portion of class focuses on integrating these ideas into a contemporary dance phrase rooted in Isaac’s choreographic voice—drawing from capoeira, breakdancing, and contemporary release techniques, as well as his experience with Kizuna Dance, Dual Rivet, and his own creative work. All are welcome, but be ready to sweat. See you on the floor!
