Mr. Lerner is an internationally sought-after teacher, celebrated for his dynamic and accessible approach to contemporary floorwork. A natural pedagogue, he began his teaching career with New York City public school students through Eliot Feld’s Ballet Tech, where he developed a gift for connecting with movers of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels.
Since then, he has taught across a wide range of institutions and programs, including the Kizuna 2021 Workshop, Middlebury College, Urban Movement Arts (PA), Peridance Center, Gibney Dance Center, Steps on Broadway, Manhattanville College, The Hartt School, and the renowned Henny Jurriëns Studio in Amsterdam. He currently serves on faculty at Gibney Dance Center and as an adjunct professor at Adelphi University. Lerner’s ongoing research as a performer and choreographer fuels his touring workshop Dots and Lines—an in-depth exploration of the body’s relationship to the floor. Focused on spatial awareness, clarity of intention, and physical efficiency, Dots and Lines equips movers of all backgrounds with tools that enrich their practice, whether or not floorwork is central to their training. His classes emphasize curiosity, adaptability, and body intelligence, fostering an environment that is rigorous, inclusive, and deeply supportive. Fall Schedule |

I’m thrilled to return to consistent teaching at Gibney Dance Center this fall. I’ve got two weekly class slots:
- Sundays, 12–2 PM: Foundation Class –This class introduces the foundations of contemporary floorwork—how we enter, exit, and travel through the floor with efficiency and clarity. We’ll begin with a group warm-up, then work through a series of “floorwork multi-vitamins” across the space, each exercise layering into a phrase. That phrase then expands into a larger sequence, giving dancers both the building blocks and the context to explore.Fundamentals are essential for every dancer, no matter the level. Expect to sweat, expect to be challenged, and expect to have fun. This is a no-judgment space: we’re all here to try, stumble, and grow together.
- Fridays, 2–4 PM: Open Level Contemporary Floorwork – This class explores how to harness breath, anatomy, and gravity to move fluidly and powerfully in and out of the floor. We’ll begin with a group warm-up, then move through “floorwork multi-vitamins” that accumulate into a phrase. These exercises give dancers the chance to test movements in isolation before weaving them into a continuous flow. From there, we expand into a larger center practice, taking those same ideas into a choreographed phrase that blends contemporary floorwork with elements of release technique. The focus is on fluidity, stamina, and endurance. Expect to sweat, expect to be challenged, and expect to leave invigorated. All levels are welcome—come as you are.
