After multiple delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Lerner triumphantly reunited with longtime collaborators Chas Rader-Shieber and Jacob A. Climer for a bold, original production of Rameau’s Platée. Serving as choreographer, Lerner helped bring to life a staging that was as playful as it was precise, infusing the opera’s comic absurdity with vibrant, stylized movement. The production dazzled with its inventive direction, whimsical flair, and a striking visual world—anchored by a delightfully singular color palette that turned limitation into theatrical brilliance. Together, the team crafted a vivid, highly physical opera experience that reveled in satire, spectacle, and wit, with Lerner’s choreography providing the kinetic heartbeat of the show’s madcap energy.
