A Midsummer's Night's Dream

Mr. Lerner made his assistant directing debut with a major opera company through Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a production that proved to be as enchanting as it was riotous. Set to Britten’s luminous and intricate score, the production was helmed by longtime collaborator Chas Rader-Shieber, whose sharply imaginative vision of Shakespeare’s tale had audiences laughing out loud and leaning in for more. Under the masterful baton of Maestra Elizabeth Askren, the music soared—providing a lush backdrop for a staging that balanced mischief, elegance, and theatricality in equal measure. As Assistant Director, Mr. Lerner played a pivotal role in realizing this magical world, bringing his eye for movement, timing, and storytelling to the rehearsal room and stage, deepening the production’s rhythm and relational clarity at every turn.
