L'Allegro, Il Penseroso, ed Il Moderato
|
For his first foray into movement direction, Mr. Lerner was invited by longtime collaborator Chas Rader-Shieber to work with the students of The Curtis Institute of Music on a delightfully unconventional production of Handel’s L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato. Originally never intended as a staged opera, the work sets the poetry of John Milton—later adapted by Charles Jennens—to music, exploring the contrast between the cheerful and contemplative temperaments, ultimately advocating for the virtues of moderation. The Curtis students brought not only their remarkable vocal talents, but also their full creative energy to the development of the movement language for this piece.
