Director Pam McDaniel approached Mr. Lerner with an ambitious new play by Charles M. Lee—one that featured 50 brides, 50 grooms, and a script calling for relentless, heightened physicality. Seeking a choreographer who could go beyond dance steps to shape a fully embodied movement world for actors, she invited Lerner to bring his physical sensibilities into a theatrical context. Lee’s script demanded not only stylized gesture but full-body commitment—actors hurtling to the ground, tumbling through space, and navigating intricately choreographed chaos. Eager to stretch beyond his choreographic roots, Mr. Lerner embraced the challenge. The result was a kinetic whirlwind of a production, with actors screaming, diving, and launching themselves across the stage as movement became inseparable from character.
